WISeKey implements post-quantum algorithms in its secure environment

Implementation of WISeKey Post–Quantum Aalgorithms in his MS6001/MS6003 Secure Semiconductors

Geneva – August 9, 2022 – WISeKey International Holding Ltd (“WISeKey”) (SIX: WIHN, NASDAQ: WKEY), a global leader in cybersecurity, AI, Blockchain and IoT, announces substantial progress in the implementation of post-quantum algorithms in its MS6001/MS6003 secure semiconductors.

Over the past two years, WISeKey has made substantial progress in the development of post-quantum resilient algorithms by establishing strategic R&D partnerships with the Institut de Recherche MINES Saint-Etienne (“MINES Saint-Etienne”), a university and an internationally renowned multidisciplinary laboratory established in 1816, aiming to help the international community find cryptography algorithms that will resist future cyberattacks based on quantum computing.

WISeKey’s expert team works with several NIST candidates for MS600X Common Criteria products: Crystals-Kyber for the key exchange mechanism and Crystals-Dilithium for signatures. The partnership focuses on the practical aspects of implementing the two algorithms, taking into account the physical side-channel attack and the deep learning process. This work completes the implementation of the NTRU and ROLLO algorithms that the team has already studied, paving the way for a complete post-quantum cryptography toolkit.

This post-quantum cryptography toolkit will help protect against the security threat posed by quantum computers, enabling hybrid solutions no later than 2025 as recommended by ANSSI. In addition to this, WISeKey will upgrade its PKI offering, adding new post-quantum features for the IoT market: secure authentication, brand protection, network communications, future FIDO (“Fast IDentity Online”) evolutions and other smart devices typically connected to the web. who obtain, analyze and process the data collected from their environment.

WISeKey is also working with NIST to define best practices for performing reliable network layer integration, which will make it easier to implement and use reliable integration solutions for large-scale IoT devices. WISeKey’s contribution to the project will consist of credential trust services and secure semiconductors to ensure credential security. Specifically, WISeKey will offer INeS Certificate Management Service (CMS) for credential issuance and VaultIC secure semiconductors to provide tamper-proof key storage and cryptographic acceleration.

While quantum computing offers endless prospects for increasing computing power incredibly, hackers will take advantage of this technology to crack cryptography algorithms, corrupt cybersecurity and compromise the global economy. Research on quantum computing, namely how to use quantum mechanical phenomena to perform rapid calculations, was initiated in the early 1980s. The prospects and incredible performance offered by this promising technology are so vast that many countries sponsor public/private R&D initiatives.

WISeKey brings its decades of expertise in the design of Common Criteria EAL5+ and FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certified hardware secure elements (MS600x secure microcontrollers, VaultIC™, etc.) and in the development of hacker-resistant firmware. New algorithms to be evaluated will first need to work practically on existing and new WISeKey hardware architectures. The Company will also share its expertise in deep learning AI techniques to prove the robustness of the implementations.
