Reva’s true complexity has already been revealed, but some fans were too busy hating the character to see it.
Since Obi Wan Kenobi premiered on Disney+, Reva (Moses Ingram) has become a divisive character. A faction of star wars fans went so far as to send racist messages to Ingram, inciting Obi Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor to publicly condemn racist fans.
At the start of the miniseries, a lot of complaints about Obi Wan Kenobi revolved around Reva. As the show progressed, Reva’s true intentions became more apparent. In the miniseries finale, the conclusion of Reva’s arc was revealed.
When Reva’s true complexity was shown, the character’s narrative changed. Because some Obi Wan Kenobi fans were so focused on actively hating Reva that they missed her complexity being present throughout.

Some ‘Star Wars’ Fans Criticized Reva At Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Premiere
The first two episodes of Obi Wan Kenobi premiered on Disney+ on May 27. After the episodes were released, social media was filled with talking points about the show.
Common complaints about the star wars the miniseries involved Ingram’s acting, Reva’s motivations, and other character observations.
One fan wrote on Reddit, “Is anyone else bothered that Reva said Anakin Skywalker is still alive? Like no one knows who Vader is except Yoda and Obi Wan, his name is a well-kept secret?”
“I don’t like Reva. I guess that’s the purpose of the character. But I also feel like it’s all very nuanced, like Ewan’s acting which is top-notch, and then she comes in and the cheese. This is very over the top ‘I AM THE VILLAIN’,” wrote one Reddit user.
“I love the show so far, but yeah, I think they’ve had a hard time writing and directing Reva… with Reva, it feels like they want her to be menacing too, but it’s not convincing yet and I think they either need to progress his arc for it to be or move away from it,” a fan wrote on Reddit.

Opinion on Reva changed after the miniseries finale
In the fifth episode of Obi Wan Kenobiit is revealed that Reva was a young Jedi who survived Order 66. Surviving Darth Vader’s (Hayden Christensen) attack on the Jedi Temple, Reva comes to the knowledge that Darth Vader is actually Anakin Skywalker.
She makes it her mission to kill Darth Vader to avenge his Jedi family and becomes Inquisitor to get closer to him. When she fails to kill Darth Vader, Reva sets out to kill Anakin’s son, Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely). She is unable to do so, effectively turning away from the dark side.
Following the final of Obi Wan Kenobisome fans of the series praised Reva’s storyline which had already been doomed.
“The big villain came back to life, reduced to what she had always been. The scared youngster, with intense potential. As controversial as it is; I love his character. A great addition to the Inquisitorial lore,” a fan wrote on Reddit.
“Wonderful bow with Reva. I’d be interested to see where she went from there, but I’d also be happy never to know,” wrote one Reddit user.
“Reva really is a great character…Obiwan’s words are things he didn’t get a chance to say to Anakin, now he told her. there’s still good in her,” said writes a fan on Reddit.

The complexity of Reva was there from the start
As with any great fandom, there are still naysayers who hate Reva. However, public opinion of the character on social media seems to have shifted in Reva’s favor, and it feels like a disservice that some fans didn’t see the nuance the character was still there.
What some fans interpreted as Reva being a one-dimensional villain in the early episodes was actually her desperation to get close to Darth Vader. Reva’s involvement with Order 66 as a youth was foretold through several episodes before it was revealed.
Some fans’ impatience led them to hate Reva for knowing Darth Vader’s true identity when it would be explained in due course. Others missed Ingram’s subtle acting, showing Reva’s distaste for Darth Vader’s violent ways and reluctance to torture a young Leia Organa (Vivien Lyra Blair).
Most egregious of all, official star wars social media accounts posted posters for Obi Wan Kenobi characters. While the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend) poster showed Obi-Wan (McGregor) as his main adversary for the series, Reva’s poster revealed that Darth Vader was his true target.
Fans who have been patient and open-minded about Obi Wan Kenobi were able to see the clues to Reva’s character, but some fans who quickly hated the character completely missed the Reva nuance until it was spelled out in the finale.
