Pick Houston Dynamo roster vs. DC United

Houston Dynamo FC looking to get back on track after Texas double misstep following losses to FC Dallas and Austin F.C. This weekend, they’re on the road as they head to our nation’s capitol to take on DC United. Despite Houston’s two-game skid, Dynamo are still above water in the 7and place position in the Western Conference. DC, on the other hand, have had their ups and downs lately, although with a 3-5-0 record they sit bottom of the Eastern Conference with just 9 points. The way Dynamo head coach Paulo Nagamura lines up in his usual 4-3-3 could see Houston turn around their slippage, but also get that rare road win — his second since the 2020 season.

One of Dynamo Theory’s nominees for Player of the Month for April, Steve Clark has been a rock between the sticks for Nagamura and, barring injury, should be the man in goal on Saturday. His backline in front of him is a little harder to predict, but I think we’ll see Teenage Hadebe and Tim Parker in central defense. Ethan Bartlow or Daniel Steres could oust Parker, but I don’t think the skipper will lose his place. At left-back, one would expect Adam Lundkvist to start, but it’s at right-back where it gets interesting. Griffin Dorsey served as Nagamura’s right-back. He’s very good going forward, but there are areas of his defensive game that have some people wanting Nagamura to give Zeca starting chances and there’s a strong case for returning to veteran Zarek Valentin. Until Nagamura starts making these changes, I think he’s sticking with Dorsey, but after every game the chances of a change keep increasing.

Last week, Matías Vera wasn’t in the starting XI or even on Matchday 18 despite not appearing on the injury report. The absence, although not on the injury report, could have been a precaution as the defensive midfielder had to withdraw in the 68and minute against Dallas with an apparent injury. This week I think Vera comes back and gets his starting position as the deepest midfielder. Opposite him, I think we’ll see Adalberto “Coco” Carrasquilla and Darwin Quintero. There is a cry for Memo Rodríguez to get the starting job on one of them, but I think he packs a punch off the bench.

Up top, we should see Sebastián Ferreira as the number 9 centre-forward. Sebas has been in tears lately, even though the club’s results haven’t all been perfect, but scoring four goals in four league games is the definition of “in shape”. On one of the wings, we should see Fafà Picault who had been the in-form player before Sebas took off. The last winger spot belonged to Corey Baird before Tyler Pasher usurped the position. Young Thiago is another option or even Thor Úlfarsson, but for now I think Nagamura is sticking with Pasher.

My projected starting XI

I think it’s just who will start for Dynamo on their trip to face DC United at Audi Field, but we want to know who you think will start or who you think should start this weekend. Vote below and feel free to share your picks in the comments.
