GATE 2022 CS Exam Analysis – Moderately Difficult Paper, Algorithms and Discrete Mathematics Dominate
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur has successfully conducted the first shift of today’s Engineering Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) 2022. Candidates were required to report for the exam from 9 a.m. to noon. In the first team, exams for two subjects took place, that is, Computing and Biomedical genius. According to the sources, the overall level of difficulty of the questionnaire was between easy and moderate. The highest grade weighting was observed in Algorithms and Discrete Mathematics. However, the overall level of engineering math and general aptitude was easy. It was also seen that about 9-12 questions in the document were MSQs.
It is reported that 50% of numerical questions were directly based on concepts. The questionnaire consisted of 14 to 16 NAT-type questions. The exam questions were mainly based on topics such as Algorithms, data structures, computer organization, digital logic, computer networking, theory of computation, databases, compiler design, operating systems, and discrete mathematics.

The general outline of the exam was based on objective type questions. However, the type of questions asked Multiple choice questions (MCQ), Multiple selection questions (MSQ) and Numeric response type (NAT). Candidates had 3 hours to take the exam.
The questions are primarily intended to test the candidate’s recall, comprehension, application, analysis and synthesis abilities. Candidates had to answer a total of 65 questions. These questions, however, have been divided into 10 General Aptitude (GA) questions and 55 CS questions. On the other hand, the score distribution in this GATE 2022 exam was different, the details of which are given below.
- General Aptitude (GA) – 15 dots
- Engineering Mathematics – 13 dots
- Computing – 72 dots
In this way, the total marks of the quiz amounted to 100. Before going through the discussions on the paper, candidates should know about the negative scoring model of the exam. For each MCQ of 01 points, 1/3 points will be deducted but for each MCQ of 02 points, 2/3 points of the question will be deducted.
